First Week of Ministry Completed

Juapong, Ghana -- It’s Sunday as I write this.  We have moved to and settled into our new place for the remainder of our project in Ghana.  Leaving Akuse on Saturday morning we traveled the hour back to the main road and drove to this place under a cool and cloudy sky that was relief and comfort from the heat.  The road was good and free of traffic until we reached Kpong.  From there to Juapong (a distance of only about 10 miles) took us nearly an hour because of the traffic.  Upon arrival here we discovered that “there was...

The Best of Times…

Akuse, Ghana -- “It was the best of times ... it was the worst of times.”  While Dickens’ wrote this phase to open his classic, “The Tale of Two Cities” I can borrow it and apply it to this day in Ghana. I left our hotel at 6:30am for my trip to our first school assembly of this final day in the Akuse area.  When we arrived for our 7:00 scheduled appointment, the crowd, numbering over 1100, were already singing songs of worship and praise.  It was melodious to our ears and encouraging to our hearts.  The entire school (which...

From Obstacles to Opportunities

Akuse, Ghana -- It’s nearly noon time on Thursday as I write these words.  The morning began with obstacles and frustrations.  We discovered that we had a problem with the clutch on one of our Rovers which forced us to use a public taxi to convey us from school to school for my assigned appointments today.  I took this as an obstacle for various reasons. About 5 minutes into the ride in the taxi, I asked the driver if he attended church and if he had assurance of a home in heaven.  The man told me yes and and I...

God Is At Work in Schools!

Akuse, Ghana -- The alarm was set for 5:30am.  Thus began another day for us in Ghana.  We were told that we had to set out for our first schools at 6:30 this morning and our national team did not disappoint in their time of arrival.  We traveled down some more of the rough, muddy roads though villages, towns, and communities to local schools who were anticipating our programs. It is alway amazing to realize all the advance preparation that has been made for our ministry.  The schools have all been visited multiple times where the administration and teachers have...

Another Good Day in Ghana!

Afternoon Weather Akuse, GhanaAkuse, Ghana -- Today is a another good one in Ghana.  The rains that were lacking in this place during the usual rainy season (May-Aug) showed themselves today!  We awoke to a gentle shower but as the morning moved forward the intensity of the rain increased.Jeff’s team traveled an hour to his appointed school ministries down roads that, in place, seemed non-existent.  Where the road was paved there were potholes so deep that the vehicle had to stop and inch forward.  Where the dirt road began the rains had so washed it out...

Graciousness: A Matter of the Heart and of the Head

Akuse, Ghana -- These are good days in Ghana.  Our national team, led by Dr. Samuel “Sammy” Lartey, display and exemplify the character traits of genuine men of God.  They are servants who desire nothing more than have the opportunity to share the Gospel with others.  Their gracious spirits are infectious and certainly are used by God to open doors for the work that we are doing. GRACIOUS is a word that is rarely used these days.  I am convinced that graciousness is a quality that needs to be more evident in our lives each day. Gracious is formally defined...
