Visit to a Hindu Temple

Wednesday, 18 July 2012 [Chennai, India] -- The ministry here continues to progress smoothly.  Outside the occasional electrical disruption, which renders our sound equipment useless, we have not encountered any physical problems.  The rains that seem to come each night have always ended by the time for us to do ministry in the schools.  God is always so gracious in allowing the Gospel to be shared with those who are ready to hear. Thus far we have seen over 6,500 individuals indicate their decision to receive Jesus Christ into their lives. As I mentioned in a previous blog, we had...

The Ministry Intensifies

[Chennai, India]  It’s Tuesday night as I am writing this blog and I am happy to report that we have now seen over 5,600 individuals indicate their decision for Christ.  Today began with a very large, “Christian” school.  We listened to the students recite the Lord’s Prayer and go through other rituals.  However we were quickly aware of the truth that not everyone who is steeped in religious traditions knows the truth of Jesus Christ. I noticed the intensity of the students as they listened to the simple truth of the Gospel.  They, for the first time, came to understand...

The Work of the Gospel Continues!

[Chennai, India]  The work of the Gospel continues!  Thus far we have shared the Gospel with over 3,500 individuals in schools, churches, and in open-air venues.  Over half of them have indicated that they prayed to receive Jesus Christ.  (One this initial project, we are only conducting two school programs each day.) While God knows each of these people by name, I do not.  However, I do know Vineet -- our waiter yesterday at the Trident Hotel.  This young man served us well --caring, as Indians do, for our every need.  As we were coming to the end of our...

The Gospel Prevails!

[Chennai, India] -- Saturday was a long, eventful day for our team.  We left our hotel before 6am and traveled three hours (through heavy rain storms) into more remote areas of the country, where we were scheduled to speak in two different evangelistic rally settings and conduct baptism services. When we arrived in the village of Bangarapalayam we were greeted by a crowd of over a hundred people.  I learned that these people were from many different religious groups -- hindus, muslim, catholics, CSI, and others -- all interested in hearing the story of Jesus Christ. It continues to thrill...

Sharing the Gospel with Indian School Children

[Chennai, India] --The sights, sounds, and smells of this vast city bring back memories of days gone by, but also point us to the task at hand.  The streets are teeming with people -- more than I ever remember seeing in any one place.  There are people from nearly all socioeconomic groups here, but the overwhelming majority are drowning in poverty.  While my heart continues to be moved by this physical need I am also drawn to the spiritual hunger evident in the hearts of many of these precious people. Today, while sharing the Gospel in a Senior Secondary School,...

Evangelism Begins Today!

[Chennai, India} --It’s Friday morning here  and after a pretty full night of rest we have welcomed a new day!  The view out of my window shows me the skyline of this large city and reminds me of all the possibilities which are ahead. I see people praying at the shrines, others quietly meditating under trees or sitting on walls.  It is a city filled with people. What is a God going to do today around us?  I am excited at the thoughts! Our first day of intentional evangelism starts today.  Apparently we have the opportunity to minister in 4...
