The “One-A-Week Challenge” Week 3

“Pray without ceasing.” 1 Thessalonians 5:17 KJV Most people find it difficult to actually talk anymore. Each day I am inundated with communications from people around the world, but over 70% of this communication is non-verbal. Too often wed text rather than talk, email rather than engage, chat rather than converse, and post to Twitter or Instagram rather than participate in someone else’s life. These efforts to connect with each other actually make us more disconnected with the person. It is possible that our spiritual communication with God is equally shallow. Paul says simply, “pray without ceasing” in the midst of...

The “One-A-Week Challenge” Week 2

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” Proverbs 3:5 NIV I’m not much of a video game player. My grandsons, on the other hand, are. The oldest grandson got Madden 16 for Christmas and he has been teaching me to play it with him. The movement of the buttons and the toggles on the controller seem completely counterintuitive to me. I find myself being frustrated because I think I should understand how to play this child’s game. Jayden keeps saying to me “Just trust me Pop-Pop, I’m telling you right!” That reminds me...

January 2016 Newsletter

R.E. Neighbour wrote, “THE New Year means an everlasting farewell to the Old Year. We may not relive the "old"; but we may, by God's help, redeem the "new." We face the New Year in the joy of new possibilities, and in the settled purpose to redeem the time. The first day of January always seems radiant with glory, calling us to new undertakings and accomplishments.” --Gems of Gold: Daily Meditations. The exalted Jesus said “Behold I am making all things new.” (Revelation 21:5) All of 2015 is a thing of the past. I hope you will remember this. The...

The First Week

“Your word is a lamp for my feet, [and] a light on my path” Psalm 119:105 NIV As we begin this New Year, it is important to know where we are going. Perhaps you have spent time setting goals for this new year and if so you probably have a path to meet those goals. It is always easier to stay on the intended path when there is light on the path. A few years ago while in West Africa I remember one evening so vividly. Two of us were making our way back to our hotel from our final...

The “One-A-Week” Challenge

This time of the year causes many of us to be a bit reflective. When we take the “Year in Review” it can bring a multitude of emotions into play. 2015 was certainly filled with many news worthy events – some very positive and others very negative. My intent here is not to focus on the past rather it is to look ahead to the future. The Apostle Paul wrote to this friends in Philippi I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the...

What does Christmas Really Mean?

In 1963, the song “It’s the most Wonderful Time of the Year” was written and pop singer Andy Williams recorded and released for “The Andy Williams Christmas Album.” This song has, in many ways become iconic with the season of Christmas. I love this season of the year! There is a continuing assault on the celebration of Christmas both by those who deny Jesus and those who know Him. For those who know Christ some tell me that I am failing to exalt Jesus because the roots of Christmas come out of a pagan midwinter ceremony and that Christmas actually...
