The “One-A-Week Challenge” Week 7

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Luke 12:34 NKJV When the Bible speaks of the “heart” it refers to the center of our being. The word “occurs over one thousand times in the Bible, making it the most common anthropological term in the Scripture. It denotes a person’s center for both physical and emotional-intellectual-moral [and spiritual] activities.” This week’s verse tells us that whatever we treasure in our life will be the controller of our life. Whatever is most precious will consume us. What do you treasure the most? Be honest. It could be money,...

The “One-A-Week Challenge” Week 5

“Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.” 1 Corinthians 16:13 NIV Life is more of a battlefield than it is a playground. Matthew Henry wrote, A Christian is always in danger, therefore should ever be on the watch. He should be fixed in the faith of the gospel, and never desert or give it up. By this faith alone he will be able to keep his ground in an hour of temptation. Christians should be careful that charity not only reigns in their hearts, but shines in their lives.1 As we navigate this thing we...

The “One-A-Week Challenge” Week 4

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” 2 Corinthians 5:17 NIV Once again this week we find something about the old and the new. In this fourth week of a new year I want you to remember -- “That was then … THIS is now!” The marvelous grace and mercy of God is sufficient to reach all who believe – from the best person to the worst person, we are akin in that all are separated from God by sin. The good news is that God sent His...

What did I learn from the Carolina Panthers?

There are some simple lessons to learn in almost all of life. This past weekend I had the amazing opportunity to take my 8-year old grandson to the Carolina Panthers NFC playoff game in Charlotte. Now it is important for me to mention two things: 1. My grandson’s two favorite teams in the NFL are the Panthers and the Seahawks. 2. As soon as it was clear that Seattle was coming to Charlotte, my sweet wife said, “You know Jayden would never forget getting to go to that game!” The experience was wonderful. We were seated in the end zone...
