Where the Blacktop Ends

“Gonna kick of my shoes and run in bare feet where the grass and the dirt and the gravel all meet…where the blacktop ends.”  Keith Urban sang these words and I am sure he did not have Ghana in mind, but it certainly fits. Today was as typical as it gets in field evangelism.  After an early morning breakfast our wonderful teams of Ghanian pastors, evangelists, and helpers greeted us and three different teams of Americans joined them and embarked on the morning school and dental projects. Today’s roads were pretty remote and difficult to traverse. Once the blacktopped roads...

And so it goes …

The sky darkened, the winds blew, and the rains poured from the heavens with an intensity that I have never seen.  The lights of the celestial fireworks were both impressive and unnerving.  Such were the sights and sounds of last night in Ghana!  Needless to say the weather forced us to cancel two of the three evening projects yesterday.  And so it goes … We awoke this morning to heavy fog and very cool temperatures at our mountain top hotel which normally overlooks the beautiful valley below.  After a good breakfast three ministry teams set out for a day of...

In the Shadow of Religion

[Akuapem, Ghana] — Today has been our first full day of ministry.  The day began with school ministry teams led by Jeff Andler and myself, while David Ney did a dental clinic.  All-in- all, we have been able to share the Gospel with over 3,200 people. It is obvious in this area of the country there is a great deal of religious presence.  All of our schools were either identified with Methodists, Presbyterians, or Assemblies of God.  However, there has been virtually no Gospel penetration here.  Many of the schools were disruptive and disrespectful to those in authority.  Teachers were...

Back in the Saddle Again

By the time you read this our entire team will have arrived safely in Ghana.  The last two to arrive, Dr. David Ney and Andy Poe texted me when they were sitting on the airplane in New York telling me that they were in fact leaving.  I’m thankful for the way God has been proving His authority and power in this project. After getting all of the “housekeeping” things handled when we first arrived we settled into our hotel in Accra.  This ultra modern hotel is both a blessing and curse.  A  blessing because of the great food, comfortable rooms,...

We Are In This Together

“The Lord is my light and my salvation — whom shall I fear?”  —Psalm 27:1 The clock is ticking and we are ready to leave for Africa.  As I have been praying and meditating on the Word of God, this Psalm has been my constant reminder that Jesus is in complete control of everything.  It is a comforting and encouraging reality that we do NOT have to face our struggles alone. Over the next couple of weeks we will be in Africa and posting daily updates through our blog.  If you have not yet subscribed to our blog, please click...

Lessons Learned

Today is my grandson’s 6th birthday.  I am so thankful for God’s blessing to our family with this guy.  He is my “best buddy!” In a few hours our US team members will board airplanes and embark on our journey to Africa for an intense and extreme ministry project.  Months of preparation are complete and our wonderful team members in Ghana, tired from all the work of planning, are eager for our arrival. There is a lesson to be learned now.  We are moving from preparation to participation.  When we sit down in our seat, buckle our seat belts, and...
