Some Lessons for Life…
While continuing to prepare for our next ministry adventure to West Africa I have been pondering some lessons we must all remember in life. Hope these are as pertinent to you as they are to me. 1. Always return the grocery cart. While it is easy to just push the cart up on the grass next to your parking place or, worse yet, leave it in the vacant parking place next to your car, that is never the right thing to do. More and more I am coming to understand that how you function with a grocery care is really...

Countdown to Harvest Ghana!
In a few days our team will be setting out for another project in Ghana. As always, I am thankful for the opportunity to travel abroad and physically reconnect with our wonderful team in Ghana. These are, without a doubt, some of the most wonderful christian servants I have ever known. These men and women work under some very difficult and challenging conditions and circumstances. They endure hardships that are completely outside our western understanding. I hope you will always pray for them with deliberate hearts. These choice servants encourage me in such wonderful ways. They have taught be so...

Relaxation and Reflection
The summer months always bring times of relaxation and reflection. I am so very thankful for the times of family vacations when we have fewer responsibilities and more recreation. I love being at the beach with our kids and grand kids. It’s absolutely wonderful to ride bikes, frolic on the seashore, and just spend time together. The summer might be the perfect time to build on the relationships that God has given you. Perhaps you have allowed some of your personal relationships to fall into disrepair. While you might think that “it’s not your fault” may I remind you that...

Straight From My Heart…
Today is my birthday — the 56th one of these I have seen come — and I am thankful for faith, family, and friends — all of which helps keep me grounded and blessed. So many people have kindly expressed wishes and assured me of their prayers for me. Each one of these people have a place in my life and encourage me at different levels. As I was reading Proverbs 2 this morning I was reminded again that God desires to give wisdom to those who serve Him. I am hungry for all that God has for me. I...

Straight From My Heart…
What has quickly become one of the most meaningful things I participate in annually is the US Capitol Reading Marathon. This year joining me for the marathon were Jeff Andler, Dave West, and Pete, Joy, and Will Stamey. Our assigned times were on Sunday night from 10pm- 2am (Monday morning) as well as Monday night from 10pm - 1am (Tuesday morning.) Standing alone on the west steps of the Capitol Building looking down the national mall reminded me that even in a place that routinely mocks and seeks to discredit the Word and Will of God we are still afforded...

Half-full or Half-empty?
The goodness of the Lord should always be acknowledged in our lives. Too often we find ourselves in a space where we see the proverbial glass as “half-empty” rather than “half-full.” This foolishness is fueled by our own fleshly ambitions and desires. Each day we will make the decision of “sight walking” or “faith walking,” in other words we will approach life from a spiritual perspective or from a fleshly perspective. It is natural to walk by sight, after all it requires nothing but more self-effort or self-punishment to justify and correct this type of circumstance. Think about it like...
